PetSmart Delivery Fees, Speed and Same-Day Options
PetSmart same day delivery is free on orders of $49 or more when you pick a delivery window at checkout, and it runs through DoorDash across nearly 1,500 stores. Below that threshold, or for recurring supplies, three other fulfillment options usually serve you better.
PetSmart offers several ways to receive your order, including Same-Day Delivery, Free Pickup, Standard Shipping, and Autoship. Here’s what each costs, the cutoffs that trip people up, and which one to use when.
Key Highlights
- Same-day delivery is free on qualifying orders of $49 or more and delivered by DoorDash
- Curbside pickup is free with no minimum, and orders placed before 7 p.m. are usually ready the same or next day
- Treats Rewards members get free standard shipping on orders over $49, so signing up first is worth the two minutes
- Autoship takes 35% off your first recurring order, up to $20, then 5% off every order
- Pickup orders left uncollected for 3 days go back to stock and get refunded automatically
Which Delivery Option to Use
The right choice comes down to how fast you need it and if you’re buying once or on repeat.
| Method | Speed | Cost | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Same-day delivery | Hours | Free over $49, fee under | Ran out of food today |
| Curbside or in-store pickup | Same day, often 2 hours | Free, no minimum | Nearby store, want it now, no fee |
| Standard shipping | 2 to 3 days | Free over $49 for members | Planned restocks, not urgent |
| Guaranteed 2-day or next-day | 1 to 2 days | Paid upgrade at checkout | Deadline, but no local stock |
| Autoship | Scheduled repeat | Discounted every order | Food, litter, anything recurring |
If you’re not in a hurry, curbside pickup is quietly the best deal, since it’s free with no minimum and usually ready within a couple of hours.
Order Cutoff Times That Actually Matter
Most people who miss a delivery date miss it by an hour, not a day.
| Option | Cutoff | If You Miss It |
|---|---|---|
| In-store or curbside pickup | 7 p.m. local, most stores | Ready the next day |
| Guaranteed next-day shipping | 9 p.m. ET | Processes next business day |
| Guaranteed 2-day shipping | 12 p.m. ET | Processes next business day |
Business days run Monday through Friday and skip federal holidays, so a Friday night overnight order lands Monday, not Saturday. Check holiday hours in December before you count on a two-day window.
Same-Day Delivery Through DoorDash
Order on petsmart.com or the app, choose a same-day window at checkout, and a DoorDash driver brings it over from your local store.
➤ Orders of $49 or more before tax get free same-day delivery on eligible items, and the product page tells you if an item qualifies.
➤ Use the check availability link in your cart before building the whole order, since coverage depends on your address.
➤ Live pets, and some oversized or perishable items, are excluded, so a tank of fish won’t arrive by courier.
➤ You can also shop PetSmart straight from the DoorDash, Instacart, Uber, Shipt, and Skip apps, though for issues with those orders you contact the app, not PetSmart.

Under $49, PetSmart doesn’t publish a flat fee, and anyone quoting you one is guessing. DoorDash Drive calculates it at checkout from your market, distance, and basket, so load the cart and read the line item. If you’re within a few dollars of the threshold, adding something you’d buy anyway usually beats paying the fee.
Delivery is contact-free, but be home for the window if you ordered wet food or anything that shouldn’t bake on the porch. For problems with a petsmart.com order, the care line is 1-888-839-9638, and I’ve mapped the other customer service numbers and hours separately.
Curbside and In-Store Pickup
Pickup is the option I reach for most, because it’s free with no order minimum and it beats delivery on speed for anyone near a store.
Place the order online, wait for the ready notification, then park in a marked curbside spot and check in through the app or by calling the store and choosing option 3. You give your name plus vehicle make, model, and color, and an associate loads it into your trunk. Curbside runs until 7 p.m. daily at select stores.
How Long PetSmart Holds a Pickup Order
Three days. After that the items go back to stock and PetSmart refunds the original payment method automatically, which takes 3 to 5 business days to appear. Nobody calls to remind you, so if you order Friday and travel, that window closes before you’re back.
Can Someone Else Pick Up Your Order
Yes, but it has to be set up at checkout, not argued about at the register. Choose the option for someone else picking up and enter their name, phone, and email. They get an email verification, and that verification is required at the store.
Three Pickup Rules Worth Knowing
Prescription medication cannot be picked up in store, so pharmacy items always ship. Paper in-store coupons are not accepted on pickup orders, though site promotions and Treats points usually are. And you can pull items from more than one store in a single session using change store on the product page.
That coupon rule catches people out constantly. If you’re holding paper, check my list of current PetSmart coupons and deals for an online code instead, because PetSmart runs pickup-specific promos fairly often.
One underrated combo is ordering food for pickup, then booking your pet a grooming appointment for the same trip. One drive, two errands done.
Standard Shipping and Paid Upgrades
Treats Rewards members get free standard shipping on orders over $49 before tax, and most packages reach the lower 48 in 2 to 3 days.
Membership is free, so there’s no reason to order without signing in first. The threshold is measured after discounts and before tax, which means a promo code that drops you under $49 also drops your free shipping. Watch that at checkout.
Need it faster? Most products offer a paid upgrade to guaranteed 2-day or next-day service within the contiguous 48. Some items only support one shipping method, and the upgrade simply won’t appear if the product can’t move that way.
Alaska, Hawaii, PO Boxes, and Military Addresses
| Destination | Method | Timing |
|---|---|---|
| Contiguous 48 | Standard | 2 to 3 days |
| Alaska or Hawaii | Second Day service | 2 to 3 business days |
| Alaska or Hawaii | USPS | 3 to 8 business days |
| PO Boxes, APO and FPO, US territories | USPS | 3 to 8 business days |
USPS can’t carry products over 70 pounds, oversized items, freight-only products, or anything flammable, which rules out a lot of what pet owners buy in bulk. Free member shipping covers the contiguous 48 plus military APO and FPO addresses, and speeds slow for veterinary diets, pharmacy, and dropship items no matter where you live.
Live pets, fresh and frozen food, and some heavy items are excluded from standard shipping. If you’re stocking a tank, my fish and aquarium guide covers what has to be bought in person.
Autoship Is Where the Savings Live
If you buy the same food, litter, or medication on a cycle, Autoship is the only fulfillment option that keeps paying you back.
The Autoship Numbers
Your first Autoship order takes 35% off, capped at $20 in savings, and every recurring order after that gets 5% off automatically. You must be signed into your Treats Rewards account for the discount to apply. It’s not valid on services, gift cards, or previous purchases, and specific medications are excluded. Recurring 5% on a $60 monthly food order is $36 a year for doing nothing.
Autoship bills at the current price on each ship date, so a price change hits your next box, and gift cards can’t pay for Autoship orders. Check what PetSmart gift cards cover if you were planning to run a subscription off a balance. Autoship purchases still earn Treats Rewards points, so the discount and the points stack.
Can You Cancel Autoship Anytime
Yes. Skip a shipment, change frequency, or cancel outright from your account with no penalty and no phone call, as long as you do it before the next order processes. Frequency is the setting most people leave wrong: a 30-day cycle on a bag that lasts 45 days quietly builds a stockpile in your garage and charges you for it.
Tracking an Order and Fixing One That Went Wrong
Order details can take up to an hour to appear in your account after checkout, so an order that looks missing usually isn’t. You don’t need an account to track one either, just the order number and postal code.
Cancelling depends on the method. For curbside or in-store pickup you contact the store where the order was placed, not the national line. Shipped orders have a much shorter window because fulfillment starts fast. If something arrives damaged or your pet refuses to eat it, the same rules apply as anything bought in store, and food is treated more generously than most people assume. Details are in my full PetSmart return policy guide.
PetSmart Delivery vs Chewy
PetSmart wins on urgency and services, Chewy often wins on recurring supplies and pharmacy depth.

If your dog runs out of food tonight, PetSmart’s same-day delivery and curbside pickup solve a problem Chewy simply can’t, because Chewy ships from warehouses over days.
The other split is physical. Chewy has no counter to walk up to, so a damaged 40-pound bag becomes a support ticket instead of a two-minute exchange. For a set-and-forget subscription, though, the two programs are close enough that price on your specific items decides it.
My Honest Take
Here’s the unpopular part: same-day delivery is the worst value on this page for most people, and the $49 threshold is why. I’ve watched myself add a $14 toy nobody asked for to dodge a $7 fee, which isn’t saving money, it’s paying more slowly. If you live fifteen minutes from a store, free curbside beats it on cost every time and usually ties it on speed.
Match the method to the moment. A real out-of-food emergency with no car is same-day delivery. A nearby store with no rush is curbside. A deadline with nothing in local stock is the paid 2-day upgrade. Anything you rebuy on a cycle belongs on Autoship.
Whatever you pick, sign into your free Treats account first. It opens up the free shipping threshold, the Autoship discount, and the points, and skipping that step is the most common way people quietly overpay at PetSmart.
