Doodles land at the top of most price lists. Their curly coats mat quickly, and a full haircut on a large Doodle takes the most stylist time of any common breed.
What a Bath or Groom Includes
Every bath includes more than the wash itself. PetSmart lists an oxygen-infused bath, nail trim, ear cleaning, sanitary trim, paw and pad trim and anal gland cleaning, except where state law prohibits it.
A Bath & Full Haircut adds the full-body cut on top of all that. That’s why nail trims and ear cleaning aren’t worth adding separately when you book a full service.
You choose the shampoo and conditioner at check-in. PetSmart says every product it uses is pH-balanced for pets, so it cleans without drying the skin.
Upgrades at the counter
Stylists offer add-ons like premium shampoo, conditioning treatments and teeth brushing. They help dogs with dry or itchy skin, but a healthy coat rarely needs them.
How Long a PetSmart Groom Takes
A full dog appointment takes about two to four hours. Size, coat and the services you choose set the time, and cats vary with temperament.
Between steps, dogs rest in their own kennel with water, and siblings can often face each other. Salons don’t feed pets, so a light meal before drop-off helps on a long visit.
PetSmart’s dryers aren’t heated, and the drying method changes by breed. For older dogs that tire quickly, ask for the express service, which keeps the visit shorter.
Cats get a gentler routine because loud dryers frighten them. Cat stylists use a quiet dryer while brushing out loose hair, which is still faster than letting the coat air-dry.

Heavy matting changes the plan and the price. Stylists may need to shave a matted coat short instead of brushing it out, and they should tell you before they start.

Seniors and military members get 10% off grooming on Tuesdays, with ID and a Treats Rewards membership. The discount covers add-ons too, which makes Tuesday the cheapest day for a full groom.
An early first visit also pays off later. A puppy that meets the dryer and the table young is usually calmer, and faster to groom, as an adult.

First-time customers get $20 off their pet’s first bath or groom when they buy it ahead of the visit. It’s valid for 60 days and needs a Treats Rewards account.

A few rules are worth knowing first. You can’t switch the base service after buying, and changing your pet’s breed in your online profile blocks the package from being redeemed.
PetSmart is also testing a Grooming Value Pass at $59.99 a year for 20% off eligible salon services. For now it’s only sold in stores around Washington, D.C., Salt Lake City and West Palm Beach.
Salon specials this season
Every Wednesday in October, salons offer free 15-minute consultations on skin, coat, nail care and hygiene. It’s a cheap way to ask a stylist about a problem coat before booking a full groom.
Through November 1, 2026, buying a fall grooming special and at least $20 of dry food on the same day earns 10,000 Treats points. PetSmart values that at about $20 in rewards.

The salon needs paper proof of a rabies vaccine before any service. Shots must be given at least an hour before check-in, and some states require more.
