PetSmart grooms dogs of every size, from a $12 nail trim to a full bath and haircut. Package prices depend on breed, coat condition and time, so PetSmart shows your estimate once you add your dog when booking.

Dog Grooming Packages
PetSmart’s packages build on each other. Every one includes nail and ear care, so you only choose based on the coat.

PetSmart says its FURminator packages reduce shedding by up to 90%. They’re worth it for double-coated breeds like Huskies, Labs and Golden Retrievers.
Quick Wash
Quick Wash is a 45-minute bath with a 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner plus a blow-dry. PetSmart lists it at $29.95, and it’s limited to select breeds.
It suits short-coated dogs that just need freshening up between full grooms. There’s also a Puppy Quick Wash for dogs under 5 months.
Quick Services
Quick services take about 15 minutes and don’t need a full package. PetSmart now lets you book them online, and you can call 1-800-677-7387 to check availability.

Anal gland expression is external only and isn’t offered in New York, New Jersey or Canada. Internal expression is done by licensed vets.
Flea and Tick Treatment
Salons apply FRONTLINE Plus, priced by your dog’s weight. It’s a handy add-on if your dog is due for monthly prevention.

Flea treatment isn’t available in New York, New Jersey or Canada, where salons offer other options. Dogs arriving with fleas may need treatment before other services.
Small Extras
A few low-cost add-ons finish off a groom. A PetSmart bandana or bow costs $3, and nail polish is $10, with colors depending on the salon.
Teeth Brushing and Breath Freshener costs $12 and uses a whitening, tartar-control gel. It freshens breath but doesn’t replace a vet cleaning, as our teeth cleaning cost guide explains.
Puppy Grooming
Puppies up to 5 months get 30% off adult pricing on Puppy Bath & Brush, Puppy Bath & Trim and Puppy Bath & Full Haircut. Early visits teach puppies that grooming is safe.
Puppies between 8 weeks and 4 months can usually be groomed without vaccinations, or up to 3 months in Indiana. Pair early grooming with puppy classes for a confident dog.
Vaccines and Local Rules
Dogs must be healthy and current on rabies, with proof on paper or in a digital app. Wait at least 1 hour after any vaccine before check-in.

What Happens During a Groom
A safety-certified groomer starts with a Hands-On Pet Assessment of your dog’s skin, coat, ears, nails and teeth. They’ll talk through any concerns and fees before starting.
Full grooms take about 3 to 4 hours. Groomers watch for stress throughout and may modify or stop the service if a dog is struggling.
Dogs wait in clean, monitored kennels with water. Flat-faced breeds like Pugs and French Bulldogs are never kennel-dried, and PetSmart’s kennel dryers have no heating elements.
Safety and Groomer Training
PetSmart says its stylists complete more than 800 hours of hands-on instruction and work with at least 250 dogs during training. Every groomer renews safety certification each year.
Trainees start as bathers, attend the Grooming Academy and finish with supervised salon work. PetSmart never sedates pets and won’t accept pets sedated elsewhere.
Extra Fees to Know
Some breeds may be charged an Additional Brushing Fee when they need more brushing than the base service. The groomer can waive it after the assessment.
Matting, tangles and coat length can all add time and cost. Regular brushing at home is the easiest way to avoid surprise charges.
Anxious, Senior and Doodle Dogs
Express Grooming shortens the visit for senior dogs and dogs that get anxious at the salon. Ask for it when you book.
Doodles and other curly coats can book the Doodle Detangling Package. It’s designed for coats that tangle easily between visits.
Getting Your Dog Ready

How Often to Groom
PetSmart says most dogs do well with grooming or bathing every four to six weeks. Coat type, lifestyle and home care change that.

Should You Shave a Double-Coated Dog?
Many owners ask for a summer shave-down for Huskies, Goldens or Shepherds. Most groomers advise against it, since the undercoat helps protect against heat and sunburn.
Shaving can also change how the coat grows back. A FURminator bath removes loose undercoat and usually keeps these dogs more comfortable than a shave.

A few minutes of brushing several times a week prevents most mats. Check ears and paws while you brush so problems get spotted early.
Signs Your Dog Needs a Groom

- Hair covering the eyes or growing between paw pads
- Scratching, redness or dandruff
Skin changes that don’t improve after grooming are worth a vet visit. Groomers can spot issues but don’t diagnose medical problems.

Dog Grooming Questions
Should I tip my PetSmart groomer?
Tipping is up to you, and many owners tip as they would at a hair salon. Ask your salon how tips are handled.
Can I stay with my dog?
Most salons ask you to drop off and return at pickup time. The groomer will give you an estimate at check-in.
What if my dog is matted?
Light dematting is included in haircut packages. Severe mats may need shaving, and the groomer will discuss it first.
Will PetSmart groom a nervous or reactive dog?
Often, yes, with Express Grooming and a clear heads-up about triggers. If a dog becomes too stressed, the groomer may stop to keep everyone safe.
